La FBC recupera minerali preziosi e rimuove una serie di contaminanti, utilizzando sabbie di silicato aggiunte come materiale di supporto. Gli ioni inorganici vengono rimossi formando cristalli stabili di sali metallici con la sabbia di supporto, che vengono poi rimossi per la riduzione dei rifiuti.
