Critical Mineral Extraction: A Glorified Water Problem? | Mining Magazine

Mining Magazine met with Swami Sekar, Gradiant’s VP of Investments, at the Mining Critical Minerals Forum in Dubai. He explains that lithium production is a “glorified water problem.”

“Critical mineral extraction and the EV transition are, fundamentally, water problems. Your sources are in water-based formats. Your processing is very water-intensive. Your effluents are largely water that requires proper treatment. If these three aspects aren’t managed well, no amount of R&D or lab work will turn them into production systems that can scale profitably,” said Swami Sekar.

Gradiant의 alkaLi EC² technology stack is the world’s most efficient, battery-grade lithium and critical mineral production process–guaranteed to deliver at least 95% lithium recovery at customer sites, empowering industries to produce battery-grade lithium carbonate faster, cheaper, and more sustainably than ever.
