Ultrapure Water

Ultrapure Water (UPW) is a fundamental requirement to manufacture semiconductors, solar cells, and sterile pharmaceutical products, and consistent quality is paramount for product yields. Processing removes impurities from drinking, river, or process water to achieve the high-quality standards these industries demand, including >18.2MΩ-cm resistivity and other parameters measured down to parts per trillion.

 

The precise specification and utility of UPW varies by industry. For example, in sterile pharmaceutical product manufacturing, UPW is an ingredient for parenteral and other products to control endotoxin content and the final rinse of primary packaging materials. By contrast, manufacturing semiconductors and solar cells requires large quantities of UPW, critical for wafer cleaning, rinsing, surface conditioning, wet etching, solvent process, chemical mechanical planarization, and slurry production. The microelectronic industry alone uses upwards of 750 billion liters of freshwater annually to produce UPW.

 

Gradiant deploys a combination of our patented technologies, including Selective Contaminant Extraction (SCE) and RO Infinity (ROI), in combination with electrodeionization (EDI) for the make-up, primary, and polishing stages to produce UPW reliably.
